References, inquiries and investigations: Supreme Court shows dissatisfaction over NAB report
The Supreme Court Thursday showed dissatisfaction over perfunctory report of National Accountability Bureau regarding current status of references, inquiries and investigations, summoning Prosecutor General of the Bureau to apprise the court in the matter.
A two-judge bench led by Justice Jawwad S Khawaja resumed the hearing of identical pleas regarding lacklustre performance of NAB officials in filing references, conducting inquiries/investigations
During the course of hearing, the NAB officials submitted report in pursuance of the court directives, saying currently 589 references are under adjudication whereas 744 inquiries and 128 cases were being probed.
Justice Khawaja plainly said that the report in hand does not give details about filing of inquires and conclusion of the cases.
Showing dismay he said, "I think Chairman NAB should be summoned in the current case".
However, Azam Khan, deputy prosecutor general NAB requested the court that prosecutor general of the Bureau would appear before the bench.
Accepting the plea of Khan, the bench said in its short order that the prosecutor general NAB shall appear before the bench with detailed report in the matter.
Meanwhile, Hearing a bail application, the bench reprimanded the NAB authorities who failed to satisfy the court that on what grounds NAB apprehended a retailer who supplied garments to Worker Welfare Board Peshawar.
Justice Khawaja said, "how it is possible that there is no Accountability Court order for remanding a retailer Muhammad Asghar Awan in judicial custody, he was behind the bars and accounts of his family members' were seized.
Granting bail to Awan the bench asked the retailer to appear before the court during next date of hearing in the matter. Hearing of the case was adjourned till Friday (today).
