Administrator Karachi Saqib Ahmed Soomro said here on Friday that as many as 1800 ghost employees have been identified in Karachi Metropolitan Corporation's (KMC) education department and 250 others in Karachi Water & Sewerage Board (KWSB) and, as such, their services would be terminated after completion of legal formalities.
"Hunt for more ghost workers in civic agencies of Karachi is on as a large number of `political favourites' have been appointed in the civic agencies and many of them are drawing salaries without discharging their duties," he added.
He was talking to media persons on Friday in the presence of officers of KMC and KWSB and metropolitan commissioner.
Speaking on the occasion, KWSB managing director Qutubuddin Shaikh said that a total of 250 ghost employees have been identified in the water utility and their salaries had been stopped.
Replying to a query, Karachi administrator said that services of all those KMC officials who have been arrested on criminal charges would also be terminated after fulfilling legal formalities. Besides, the matter was being further probed by FIA, KMC and other organisations, he added.
He said that a final report about ghost employees will be compiled soon and their services would be terminated after stopping their salaries.
Talking about the KMC's vehicles which are lying idle for want of repair works, he said that all those vehicles would be on roads by June as the government has sanctioned Rs150 million for their repairing.
Regarding persisting water leakages problem around FTC Flyover on Sharea Faisal, he said that it would be resolved on a permanent basis within 10 days as the work on it was continuing at an estimated cost of over Rs70m.
