A delegation of Saudi investors comprising office-bearers of Pak-Saudi Joint Chamber of Commerce and Industry and led by Vice Chairman Jeddah CCI Mazen Mohammad Batterjee met Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, here on Friday. The delegation expressed its keen interest in investment in agriculture, livestock and energy sectors.
Talking to the delegation, the CM said there were strong brotherly and historical relations between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia and the bilateral ties could be further expanded by promoting economic co-operation.
He said fraternal and friendly ties between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia could not be described in words and Saudi Arabia had supported Pakistan in every hour of need including wars, floods, earthquakes and other natural calamities.
The CM said there was a vast scope of investment in agriculture, livestock and other sectors in Punjab and Saudi investors could benefit from those investment opportunities. He said Pakistan was one of the biggest countries with regard to its livestock production. He further said that energy crisis had badly affected every sector of life, however, the government was paying due attention to the early completion of power projects. He said federal and Punjab government had evolved a programme to set up gas-based power projects of 3,600 megawatts in the province. He said Saudi investors could make investment in energy sector. The CM said all projects were being completed transparently and speedily while a high standard was also being maintained. He said that a delegation from Punjab representing energy, agriculture and livestock sectors would soon visit Saudi Arabia.
Chairman Jeddah Chamber of Commerce and Industry Mazen Mohammad Batterjee said that exchange of delegations of investors between Punjab and Jeddah could be very useful. He also expressed desire to invest in various sectors in Punjab. He said there was a need for effective measures for the promotion of bilateral co-operation in agriculture, livestock, energy and other sectors.
Provincial Minister for Industry Chaudhry Muhammad Shafiq, Advisor on Health Kh Salman Rafiq, President CCI Lahore, Secretaries of Health and Higher Education departments as well as concerned officers were also present on the occasion.
