Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) candidate Imran Ismail on Friday submitted a request to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), seeking army's deployment during by-election in NA-246 constituency of Karachi. The PTI has called upon the authorities to deploy army troops in and outside polling stations to provide protection to voters.
The NA-246 constituency, which is believed to be the bastion of Muttahida Qaumi Movement, remained vacant after Nabeel Gabol's resignation. Gabol had won the National Assembly seat on an MQM ticket in the 2013 general elections.
Now, by-election in the constituency will be held on April 23. The final list includes three prominent candidates including Kanwar Naveed Jameel of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf's (PTI) Imran Ismail and Jamaat-i-Islami's (JI) Rashid Naseem.
