Legislators from both treasury and opposition benches of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly Friday joined hands for waging struggle for the rights of the province. The development was developed in the wake of the call attention notice of the Yasin Khan Khalil, a PTI MPA, which he have moved for non-implementation of the unanimously passed resolution of the house by the federal government.
In the resolution passed on October 31, 2013, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly had criticised Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) and Sui Northern Gas Pipeline Limited (SNGPL) for unleashing a reign of cruelty and injustice by resorting to 12 hours load shedding a day.
For action, the resolution was sent to President of Pakistan, Prime Minister, Secretary National Assembly, Secretary Senate, Federal Minister for Water & Power, Federal Minister for Petroleum, Federal Minister for Law, Chairman WAPDA and other responsible ministers and government officials, but it is a matter of sorrow that the resolution as put in the dustbin and even after the passage of 17 months no action was taken, which is insult of the members of the house.
Senior Minister for Local Government, Inayatullah also complained of no progress on the resolution and demanded of federal government for the implementation of the resolution of the provincial assembly. He said that mercury is going up and load shedding has also resurged. Therefore, he called for taking the matter into consideration seriously.
From opposition benches, Sardar Hussain Babak of ANP thanked the PTI legislator, saying that the problem is not only faced by the people of Peshawar, but by the people of the whole province. Payment of no heed to the resolution of the provincial assembly, he said is sheer injustice and breach of the privilege of the house. He urged the Speaker for convening a meeting of the committee constituted for taking up the matter with federal government.
He also proposed the constitution of a parliamentary Jirga for raising the matter with federal government. He said that Senate elections had brought PTI and PML-N closer to each other, then the former should now also staged a sit-in at D-Chowk for the interests of the province also.
Manawar Khan Advocate of JUI-F proposed the staging of sit-in in front of the WAPDA House, Peshawar. However, Sardar Aurangzeb Nalotah made efforts to defend federal government by saying that load shedding is the problem of the whole country and not Khyber Pakhtunkhwa specific.
Shah Farman, another provincial minister said that although the province is producing additional gas than its requirement, but it is not allowed to utilise it for the generation of electricity. He said that instead of technical experts, political activists have been nominated on the Board of Directors of Peshawar Electricity Supply Company (PESCO), which is creating hurdles in the resolution of the problems of the people. He said that the house should decide to whether the sit-in for the rights of the province should be staged at WAPDA House, Lahore, in Islamabad or any other city of the country. He said that the moratorium imposed on the gas connections in the province is unjustified.
Speaker, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly, Asad Qaiser has directed the convening meeting of the joint parliamentary committee of the house for preparation of line of action for raising voice for the rights of the province. Later, the Speaker adjourned the proceedings of the house till Monday 2:00 P.M.
