Shaheed Hakim Mohammed Said memorial lecture was held on the theme "Social services of Shaheed Hakim Mohammed Said," presided over by Sadia Rashid, Chancellor Hamdard University at Bait al-Hikmah auditorium, Madinat-ul-Hikmah, Karachi.
Speaking on the occasion, the guest speaker and former federal minister of Science & Technology, ex-senator and renowned scholar Javed Jabbar said that Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and Hakim Mohammed Said had similar vision and ideas on religious tolerance, social justice, promotion of education and gender equality in the country. If we worked with integrity in our respective fields we should be able to make Pakistan in accordance with the vision and ideas of Quaid-e-Azam and Hakim Said.
He said, it is very difficult to run the institutions and follow the policies of Hakim Mohammed Said for he was an extraordinary man but Sadia Rashid did it very well. Madinat-ul-Hikmah, a city of education, science and culture is an amazing place, it had proximity yet detachment with the city of Karachi which was necessary for an educational institution and all arrangements were made here for education from primary to the university level through Hamdard Public School, Village School, Colleges and Hamdard University, he added.
"Usually we give preference to higher education that is also essential, but importance to primary education should also be given as is being given in Madinat-ul-Hikmah, because it makes the foundation of education strong and solid," he maintained.
He said that he made a bridge between the cities and villages of Sindh by establishing an NGO in Nagar Parker and Hakim Said made this bridge more solid and stable by touring the Tharparkar as a governor of Sindh.
Paying rich tribute to Hakim Said he said that he was a trader, an industrialist, physician, philanthropist, writer, editor and public intellectual as he used his intellect in public interest.
Answering a question, Javed Jabbar said that to put total responsibility of cultural invasion by India on Pakistan is not correct as we were also responsible for that and we could not grow our culture keeping it in refrigerator, technology naturally brought the change in culture.
