The Punjab Minister for Food has appealed to the public to boycott elements involved in illegal profiteering and overcharging and promptly inform the government about them for an immediate legal action against them.
Minister Bilal Yaseen, who also holds the portfolio of the chairmanship of the Cabinet Committee on Price Control, claimed that the government had set up an active and organised monitoring system to reduce and maintain the prices. He said duty magistrates visit to the Sunday Bazaars and other commercial areas under the same monitoring system on the daily basis would help in the price stability.
He visited various commercial areas in Lahore on Saturday that took him to the Shadman and Liberty Markets and interacted with shopkeepers and consumers. He claimed that the government was well aware of issues being faced by the common man and had set up the monitoring system.
During his visit to a supermarket in the Shadman area he issued a warning to the owner against failing to display the rates of commodities, and finally during his visit to the Liberty Market he ordered the arrest of two vegetable and fruit vendors on the charges of illegal profiteering and fined Rs 25,000 each. His warning also went to the area magistrate to strictly ensure the sale of the daily items.
