On this day, 36 years ago Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto passed away. On 4th of April 1979, a military dictator thought that hanging Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto would extinguish the love of Pakistani people for the man, his vision and his mission. To the contrary, the knot further strengthened the bond between Bhutto and his people, forever. The best evidence is that the people of Pakistan have always voted for Pakistan People's Party, the Bhutto's vision, in every election ever since. Those opposing PPP and Bhutto have tried their best to win elections, but could only do so through rigging and foul-play. When all else failed, Shaheed Bhutto's opponents tried to achieve their nefarious designs by murdering his beloved daughter, Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto. In the end, the people of Pakistan have emerged victorious and democracy has triumphed. According to a famous philosopher "leaders are born not created."
"People have come out in the streets protesting and rebelling against the tyrannical rule which has created untold hardships for the common man. There is a limit to their patience and tolerance. They feel the pain of the oppressive system and they also aspire for a better life for their people. They are poor but they dream of a better future. Their right to roti kapra aur makan nobody can take away from them. Hunger and poverty stalk the land. This is not their destiny that they should remain poor and deprived for ever. They need food and clothes. They want security of job and a decent life. If people are not given back their rights they will find a deliverer. And if a deliverer does not appear they will themselves lead a revolution." Quaid-e-Awam
Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto was a born leader. He had a magical charisma. A visionary and a philosopher of his time, and for times to come. He spent his entire life struggling for the cause of people of Pakistan. Today, the manifesto of Pakistan People's Party reflects his aspirations and his dreams.
A highly educated leader, Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto was well aware of the needs of the nation and did his best to solve the multitudes of socio-economic and political problems. Today, the people have one question in mind. What was Bhutto's fault? After the fall of Dhaka, he rebuilt Pakistan, got ninety thousand Pakistani soldiers freed from the captivity of Indian government and reclaimed Pakistani territory from Indians. He successfully organized the Islamic Conference, bringing together the Umma on a single platform. He laid the foundation of Pakistan's nuclear program. It was under his leadership that practical steps were taken to establish Heavy Mechanical Complex, Pakistan Steel Mills, Port Qasim Authority and other major industrial and defence projects which are the backbone of Pakistani economy and sovereignty today.
Was it his crime that he gave a consensus Constitution to Pakistan? Students of history know the answer. His achievements are true the Answer.
Every patriot Pakistani knows that it was Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, who led the nation on the journey of progress and prosperity and ensured justice for all. People now know that had Bhutto not been killed, the internal and external situation of Pakistan would have been different today. Even the worst opponents of Bhutto are convinced that if Bhutto had continued to lead Pakistan, this nation today would have been an Asian tiger.
Bhutto knew that only a strong economy could guarantee Pakistan's progress. Instead of doing politics from a drawing room which was the norm at the time, he went personally to the people and learned about their problems, first hand. The slogan of "Roti, kapra aur makan" was the motto of Pakistan Peoples Party.
His political philosophy is still alive in millions of hearts. Bhuttoism is all about upholding the rights of the people. Bhutto had the courage of his conviction and was a dauntless fighter for democracy.
Kal bhi Bhutto Zinda tha Aaj bhi Bhutto Zinda hai
