The administrative crises have further deepened in the Federal Urdu University of Arts, Science and Technology (FUUAST) as "university high-ups circulating fake circulars/notifications regarding the forced leave of Vice Chancellor Dr Zafar Iqbal", official sources told Business Recorder.
It is noteworthy to mention here that Dr Zafar Iqbal has been accused of financial irregularities and other malpractices upon which the senate of the FUUAST has order an inquiry against him.
According to sources, Dr Zafar Iqbal was asked to withdraw from his post for three month so that impartial inquiry could be conducted.
"This meeting of the university senate held on December 20, 2014, at the President House in Islamabad resolved unanimously to send Dr Iqbal on forced leave and to terminate the registrar Dr Fahimuddin with immediate effect to ensure an impartial inquiry without possible influence of the current management, said Dr Seema Naz.
However, she said Dr Iqbal had received stay order by a Sindh High Court division bench against his forced leave.
An interesting scenario emerged on April 2, when the office of the FUUAST Registrar issued a notification, directing the university Registrar Dr Fahimuddin to report to Dr Mohammad Qaiser, acting vice chancellor of FUUAST as Dr Zafar Iqbal is on three months leave. But, according to the FUUAST spokesperson, the said notification is faked and fabricated because no such notification was issued by any of the varsity official.
Dr Mohammad Qaiser is also the vice chancellor of University of Karachi.
She said that Dr Zafar Iqbal has attained a stay order from the Sindh High Court against the FUUAST senate decision on his forced leave. The teachers alleged that the vice-chancellor had blatantly used his official position for personal advantage and monetary benefits.
The university has been facing serious administrative crises since the appointment of Dr Iqbal as the vice chancellor in February 2013, said a professor, who wished not to be named. He said corruption has become hallmark of the university.
Sources alleged academic and research activities have been totally halted besides putting the future of the university and the students at stake. They accused Dr Iqbal for directly appointing three key administrative officials without following the due process of recruitment despite announcing the posts in various national newspapers.
