Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) candidate from NA-246 Karachi, Imran Ismail, has demanded that the constituency be handed over to the military till April 23 for maintaining law and order. Speaking at a news conference here on Sunday, Ismail accused the MQM's candidate, Kunwar Naveed Jamil's hand in the uprooting of the PTI election camp in Karimabad.
He alleged that 'those who vandalised the PTI camp in Karimabad were trained MQM workers'. He demanded the authorities to ensure protection of workers of all political parties, saying that a human life is more precious than the by-election.
The PTI candidate said, "If we were stopped at a place, we shall go to the other, but won't give up".
Referring to the MQM's claim that those who caused trouble in Karimabad were not its activists, he said if they were not MQM workers then why they were extended help by the party.
Expressing his surprise over the release of those who were arrested for uprooting the PTI camp, he said that the party's workers are being targeted during election campaign in Karachi.
He questioned as to when Election Commission of Pakistan would take notice of the recent incidents in NA-246.
"A code of conduct was prepared at Governor's House but MQM violated it the very next day," Imran claimed.
"To avoid bloodshed, army must be deployed", said PTI candidate. He said that the PTI workers were unable to run the door-to-door campaign because of the fear, but MQM must remember that PTI would never back off.
