The Supreme Court Monday summoned Chairman National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Qamar Zaman Chaudhry to provide the reasons behind non-implementation of court'a directives, as the anti-graft body has failed to submit a comprehensive report on current status of pending investigations and references.
A three-member bench led by Justice Jawwad S Khawaja resumed the hearing of identical pleas filed against NAB officials involved in misconduct.
During the course of proceedings, Prosecutor General (PG) NAB Waqas Qadeer Dar submitted a report in pursuance of the court's earlier orders, but the bench expressed dissatisfaction saying the requisite information has not been provided yet. The NAB has not taken effective measures to eliminate menace of corruption form the system, he added.
The bench issued directives to the PG NAB to submit before April 9 a comprehensive report pertaining to its earlier orders, including statistical data about the number of complaints received by the NAB against the officials so far, the number of inquiries on the received complaints, references filed by the NAB, the number of persons acquitted in different cases, the number of cases disposed of voluntarily, the amount of time consumed in inquiries, reasons for delay if surely delayed, statistics of complaints about wrongdoings in NAB, actions against delinquent officers of NAB.
The court sought all these statistics form the NAB in consolidated form to qualitative and quantitative analyse relevant information, persons responsible for violating the guidelines set out by the Sindh High Court for the NAB, the number of accused whose arrest warrants were issued but they are still at large.
Submitting the report in the matter, Waqas Qadeer Dar apprised the bench that Director General NAB Lahore has been issued a notice pertaining to an accused Asghar Awan who was apprehended without a judicial order. Later, the hearing of the matter was adjourned till April 9.
