The chief minister on Monday chaired a meeting sifting through a string of proposals being aimed at launching a campaign against adulteration in the province, with spelling out a stern action over their sales. Shahbaz Sharif told the meeting, "It is the obligation of the state to ensure the provision of high quality and hygienic food to the citizens and the Punjab government will efficiently discharge its responsibilities in this regard. The elements involved in adulteration are the enemies of humanity and deserve no leniency."
He also told departments and agencies to evolve a comprehensive and effective action plan against adulteration, saying the elements selling the adulterated food should be put behind the bars and necessary amendments in the laws should be considered. He then talked up a comprehensive mechanism at the provincial, divisional, district and tehsil levels.
Those also present were Provincial Ministers Bilal Yasin and Chaudhry Muhammad Shafiq, Health Advisor Khawaja Salman Rafiq, Member of the Provincial Assembly Dr Nadia Aziz, the chief Secretary, department secretaries and senior officials.
