The Tourism Corporation Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (TCKP) is arranging a one-day seminar in connection with the upcoming Shandur Polo Festival in Chitral district. The purpose of the seminar to be held here on April 13 is to have consultations and invite proposals from stakeholders and prospective participants so that to organise the festival in a befitting manner and promote peace and tourism in the province.
The decision to this effect was taken at a meeting chaired by the Secretary of Tourism, Sports, Archaeology and Museums and Youth Affairs, Dr Aftab Akbar Durrani, here on Monday.
TCKP Managing Director Mushtaq Ahmad Khan, MPA Fauzia Bibi, Deputy Secretary of Home Rehmatullah Wazir, director protocol M Arif Khan, president of Chitral Journalists Forum Zulfiqar Ali Shah, president of Sports Writers Association Nadir Khwaja, president of Shandur festival Mujahid Khan, TCKP general manager Sajjad Hameed, director Culture Tariq Mehmood and others attended the meeting.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Aftab Akbar Durrani said that the seminar was aimed at to bring the peoples of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan closer and promote peace and tourism in two provinces. He said KP Chief Minister Pervez Khattak and GB Chief Minister Syed Mehdi Shah will also attend the seminar wherein the date for the Shandur Polo Festival would be announced.
He said that polo players of both provinces would be invited to the seminar. Besides polo game, he said, the cultural and music shows and traditional dances would also be the major features of the festival.
Shandur Top is located in Chitral and often called the 'Roof of the World'. The top is flat, a plateau and can be crossed between late April and early November.
