Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Punjab President Ejaz Chaudhry has launched a scathing attack on the government, accusing the Sharif brothers of destroying the textile industry because of their pathetic policies. "What happened to the much-talked Textile Policy 2014-19? The industry was once one of the major revenue producers and contributors to the economy, but the brothers are bent on destroying every industry, including the textile," he said. "A large number of investors have left the country. The investors prefer to invest in Bangladesh, which has adopted a business-friendly policy for textile investors. The government has done nothing to address the energy issue being faced by the textile sector."
PTI Punjab Secretary General Yasmin Rasheed too blamed the government, saying the industry could no more compete in the international market since it was struggling for energy availability. "How can production be increased without electricity and gas in the country? Pakistan needs competent people in decision and policymaking who can make sensible decisions based on policy with planning, rather than the so-called experienced team of the Sharif brothers. GSP Plus status is of no use until we do not fix the energy issue, but this is not on priority list of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz," he added.
Then Information Secretary Andleeb talked about the state of cotton, saying the country was the fourth largest producer of cotton in the world. "It is shameful that the ruling elite never tried to unleash the country's potential. Unfortunately, the PML-N's government is after inauguration ceremonies of roads and metro buses and they never think of the sufferings of poor farmers and industrialists," he claimed. "Textile manufacturers are crying hoarse over the government's failure to maintain the electricity and gas supplies to them. The industry's demands of energy supply should be fulfilled on priority basis."
