Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Pervez Khattak has said that peace and development in Afghanistan is very significant for political and economic stability of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He said that there was no serious security threat to forthcoming local government elections.
Talking to a four-member delegation of USAID led by Greg, Mission Director, which called on the Chief Minister at CM House, he said that KP Government was planning to hold an Investment Road Show in the US to offer investment opportunities in five major sectors in the province.
The Counsel General of the US at Peshawar was also accompanying the delegation.
Provincial Minister for Mineral Development Ziaullah Afridi, Additional Chief Secretary Hamad Awais Agha, principal secretary to Chief Minister Dr Shahzad Bangash and other officers were also present.
The delegation discussed matters pertaining to developmental assistance of USAID and informed the CM about USAID programs and projects being carried out in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. They also held deliberations over industrial development, investment prospects and municipal services, and offered support in transformation of the system especially in local governments.
Informing the foreign delegates about agenda of the PTI-led coalition government in KP province, as well as the goals achieved so far, the Chief Minister said that formulating reforms in governance and operations of the government departments, and their implementation with letter and spirit was the foremost and major objective of the government. He added that, "we are trying to form best system to protect the rights of the common man and provide them equal opportunities of the living".
Making a comparison of local councils with those of other provinces, he said that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was the only province which devised a real local government system that provided enormous powers to serve people at grass-root level.
Describing peace and security a prime need of the province to overcome unemployment through industrialization and other economic activities, the Chief Minister said that his government was hoping for generation of electricity from surplus natural gas reserves of the province.
He added that the electricity so generated would be utilized for industrialization and that too at much cheaper tariff. He told that after Dubai, another Investment Road Show was being planned to be held in New York this year aimed at projecting investment potential in tourism, industries, mining, energy and power and agriculture sectors of the province.
Seeking technical help and support of USAID for an efficient municipal services system, the Chief Minister said that making cities clean and beautiful equipped with all necessary civic amenities is another part of agenda to ensure convenience for the common people.
