LCCI Vice President Syed Mahmood Ghaznavi said on Friday that the timely completion of hydropower projects is vital to mitigate the shortfall. "The government should ensure an equal supply of electricity throughout the country since the Punjab is the worst hit by the electricity shortage and only last year it lost three percent of its gross domestic product because of this power crisis," he said.
"Due to long power cuts the investment scenario has spoiled the province so much that the existing industrial units have curtailed their productions. Consumers of the efficient distribution companies with lowest line losses and the highest recovery ratio are being treated unfairly," he added.
He also said the private sector is the engine of the growth and that in the developed countries it is facilitated to the maximum but in Pakistan circumstances are totally different.
He said, "The LCCI has repeatedly warned the government of massive lay-offs and industrial closures if it fails to immediately stop the power outages, but concerned officials are playing the role of silent spectators."
