Save the children, in collaboration with the Integrated Reproductive Maternal New-born Child Health and Nutrition Programme Punjab and Reckitt Benckiser has organised an event to acknowledge the services of lady health workers from all over the Punjab.
Like the previous years, the event was organised in commemoration of the "Global Health Workers Week". The best lady health workers from 36 districts of Punjab were nominated and honoured to receive the "Best LHW Award" in acknowledgement of their dedicated services for improving Mother and Child Health and Primary Health Care in the Punjab.
These best performing LHWs were nominated for the prestigious awards based on their outstanding performance while saving lives of mothers and children across Punjab.
Advisor to Chief Minister Punjab on Health Khawaja Salman Rafique was the chief guest. Officers of different departments and representatives of non-governmental organisations also attended the function.
The advisor on the occasion said, "The government is sincere in its efforts to increase the numbers of LHWs in the province so that they can serve the communities in need more effectively."
Director of Save the Children Pakistan Dr Masood Abbasi thanked all the government departments of the Punjab for their generous support and ownership of Save the Children's ongoing Diarrhea Prevention and Control Programme.
He said, "Together with Reckitt Benckiser we are committed to deliver our best in the ongoing Diarrhoea Prevention and Control Programme by making some new interventions and bringing a notable change in diarrhoea related deaths among children. The role of LHWs will be of immense significance in making this programme successful in Hafizabad and Khanewal districts. There is a need to facilitate and trained them further for their capacity-building."
