Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has spoken in defence of his Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz government, claiming that his government has served the public selflessly during the past seven years and that under the leadership of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif effective steps are being taken to cope with challenges.
He also talked about welfare projects, claiming that their completion with transparency, quality and speed was his government's hallmark. "There is no allegation of corruption against the PML-N government and the opponents cannot point finger at it," he claimed. His comments came on Friday in a meeting with party office-holders at the Chief Minister's Secretariat.
"Last year's sit-ins and politics of protest have caused huge loss to the economy; Energy, infrastructure and other projects with China were delayed because of sit-ins and sit-ins created hindrance in the journey of development and prosperity. Those who have wasted the precious time of the nation do not care about the country and the common man," he said.
He blamed the sit-ins, saying they had damaged the country's image because of which besides delay in development projects, the process of foreign investment hindered and that false allegations were levelled in the sit-ins which ended the difference between the truth and the lie. "The sit-ins further increased the miseries of common man. Those doing the politics of sit-ins caused loss to the country and the nation. Although the country has been brought out of sit-ins and uncertainty yet its affects will be felt for a long time," he added.
He continued, "By the grace of Allah Almighty, the PML-N government has again started the journey of development and we are moving forward with new spirit and determination. Authentication of precious mineral resources in Chiniot-Rajwa is a great gift of Almighty Allah for Pakistan. The PML-N government has brought the precious mineral reserves out of corruption before the people. During the dictatorial era, the former rulers of the Punjab tried to rob this project and this precious treasure was sold to a so-called company at throwaway prices, but the PML-N government foiled this effort and has brought precious treasures before the people."
He claimed that the treasure discovered in Chiniot-Rajwa was never a property of 100 million people of the Punjab but of 180 million people of Pakistan and this was a special gift of Allah Almighty. "According to experts, the reserves of iron ore and copper are spread over 2,000 square kilometres, and Chinese and German experts will soon submit a final report. The destiny of this country and the nation will be changed through hard work, trust and honesty by benefiting precious reserves of iron ore and copper," he claimed.
He also said the discovery of wind power corridors in the Punjab was "big happy news" and a Danish company had identified generation of electricity through wind at various places in the Punjab. "The Punjab government has set up the first and biggest 100 megawatt solar project of the country from its own resources at the Quaid-e-Azam Solar Park Bahawalpur, which has been completed. This is the first solar project in the history of the world that has been completed with fast speed and will soon start generating electricity," he added.
About projects of provision of facilities to the people and development of the province, he said the culture of merit, transparency and speedy completion of development projects had been promoted in the province and no one could level allegations of corruption of "even a single penny against us".
He said billions of rupees were being spent on the projects of public welfare, education, health and other basic amenities. "The provision of potable water will be ensured under Saaf Pani Project at all Tehsils of Punjab by 2017," he added.
He said he hoped the serious and sincere efforts for bringing the country out of the quagmire of problems would bear fruit and that the country would certainly come out of the problems and achieve its goal. He also said 50,000 vehicles were being distributed among the jobless youth on merit under the Self-Employment Scheme for which quota of districts of the South Punjab had been enhanced.
He claimed that the project of billion of rupees was a masterpiece of merit and transparency and that Rs 15 billion were being spent on the construction and rehabilitation of roads in the rural areas under the Khadim-e-Punjab Rural Roads Programme during the current financial year whereas more resources of billions of rupees will be provided under this programme in next financial year.
