The provincial assembly of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Friday passed the KP Ehtesab Commission (Amendment) Bill, 2015 to allow the commission to conduct the accountability of 10 years old corruption cases. The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Ehtesab Commission Act, 2014 was passed by the provincial assembly in October 2014.
The much triumphant commission of the PTI government has been constituted and already operationalized. However, it have come into force with immediate effect and was authorise for making intervention into the corruption or corrupt practices committed during the present government and not during previous governments.
The amendment was aimed to authorize the Provincial Ehtesab Commission for conducting accountability into the corruption and corrupt practices of the previous governments. The commission will now open corruption cases committed after January 1, 2004.
Under the second legislation, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Consumer Protection Act, 1997 was amended to bring the consumer protection law in line with the present day requirements and to protect the consumers from the manufacturers, traders and goods or service provider's unfair trade practices.
Under the new Act, the manufacturers would become bound to disclose details of the goods products such as components, parts, quality, ingredients, or date of manufacturing and expiry date to consumer before entering into contract of sale while in case of service, the provider will have to disclose the capabilities or qualification of the services or quality of the products.
Meanwhile, Mehmood Jan of PTI took up the matter of heavy dust due to marble factories on Warsak Road. He said that the area has about 200 marble units while concerned departments including Environment, industries, irrigation and C&W are lacking check on them.
He said that marble units used to dump their waste in a nearby canal, which is being put on road by the irrigation department resulting in creating dust on Warsak Road. He said that due to heavy dust creating visibility problem, which result in accidents. The Speaker, Asad Qaiser said that he has also acknowledged the problem and asked the concerned departments for the resolution of the problem.
The senior minister, Inayatullah assured that he will consult the secretaries of the four concerned departments and also sought input from the mover. The disgruntled PTI MPA also took the floor and highlighted the problems of law and order and drinking water in his electoral constituency. He said that a toddler of age one and half year in his constituency has been kidnapped since last 12 days. But, police has taken no action.
