The opening ceremony of 11th Chief of the Naval Staff International Squash Championship was held at Roshan Khan Jahangir Khan Squash Complex, here, on Saturday. Commander Karachi Vice Admiral Syed Arifullah Husaini graced the occasion as chief guest and declared the championship open.
Earlier the Tournament Director, Commodore Zahid Iqbal in his address appraised that the pre qualifiers and qualifiers matches started on 9th April while the main round of the tournament has started today and will culminate on 14th April. He said that 16 players are participating in this competition out of which 13 are from Pakistan while three are Pakistani citizens based in ARMENIA, UAE and USA.
The inaugural match of the main rounds was played between Faraz Mohammad (Pakistan) and Tayyab Aslam (Pakistan). Tayyab Aslam was declared the winner of the match. The 1st CNS International Squash Championship was conducted in year 2000 with prize amount of $6,000/-. The tournament prize over the years has been increased appreciably. This year it is $15,000 thereby designating the tournament as 'Challenger 15'.
