Special Assistant to the Prime Miniser on Aviation, Muhammad Shujaat Azeem has issued a defamation notice to a private TV news channel (not Aaj TV) to tender an apology to him. The notice was issued through a leading defamation lawyer Alasdair Pepper, through solicitors Carter-Ruck of London.
It says the programme is broadcast in England and Wales by a private television news network, an English registered company, among others, a substantial section of the Pakistani community in England and Wales, which numbers approximately 1.2 million people.
The notice states that Shujaat Azeem had no involvement whatsoever in the murder of former Lebanese Prime Minister Rafic Harriri, and the allegation is totally malicious and a complete fiction. Special Assistant to the Prime Minister has no executive power in relation to PIA since the airline has its own board of directors and therefore Shujaat Azeem cannot sell any asset.
