ISLAMABAD: Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman on Sunday said that Pakistan should play mediator's role to resolve the Yemen crisis. However, he did say that when it comes to protection of holy land (Haramain Sharifain), not only the armed forces of Pakistan but the people of Pakistan will be ready to sacrifice their life to protect the Makkah.
Talking to media persons after a meeting of his party's central executive committee here, he said that Yemen issue is quite complicated as both Saudi Arabia and Yemen are Muslim countries and any decision taken in haste will create problem for Pakistan.
He said that his party will evolve a strategy over Yemen issue after listening to the government in the joint-session of the Parliament scheduled for Monday. "We have discussed the issue at length and will give our clear point of view after listening to government's stance over the issue in the joint session of the parliament," he added.
Fazal added that government should take any decision in this regard after reviewing all the pros and cons of the situation and its consequences. "Both are the Islamic countries and we should play mediatory role to defuse the situation," he stated.
To a question about the PTI decision to return to the assemblies, Maulana said: "I am only talking about the Constitution what it says over their resignations from the assemblies seven months back and what is its status today as per the law."
He said JUI-F rejects the proforma sent to the seminaries by the religious affairs ministry, saying that the seminaries are only bound to get themselves registered under the law introduced in 2005.
He said his party deems the introduction of 21st amendment to the Constitution as prejudiced.
"We are close to evolving an agreement among the parties for getting the words 'factions' and 'religion' expunged from this amendment," he said, adding that efforts are also afoot to persuade the government in this regard.
