The traders of south Punjab have unanimously rejected the govt decision for closure of shops and markets in Multan, Bahawalpur and Dera Ghazi Khan divisions by 8:00 pm and called upon the govt to withdraw its decision and try to resolve the issue through consensus efforts otherwise the whole trading community of the Southern Punjab would launch a protest against this move. President MCCI, Mian Iqbal Hassan, Senior Vice President Alamgir Jamil Khan and Vice President Mirza Ali Ahmed said that Bureaucracy is repeating the past mistakes to put the trade community into trouble.
They said that the govt has taken unilateral decision for closure of shops and markets in 13 districts of southern Punjab without taking traders into confidence while the local administration has come into action for its implementation which is not acceptable to the traders. They said the energy crisis is the issue of whole country whereas line losses and power theft are minimum in MEPCO region as compared to other regions, but it is unfortunate that only the traders of these backward areas are being forced to close shops early, which is highly discriminatory. He said the local business community has totally rejected this decision and if any arms twisting tactics were used, traders could start strong protests.
