Almost 32 projects, including 16 of energy sector, five pertaining to Gwadar and four of transport and infrastructure sectors, would be signed under Pak-China Economic Corridor during Chinese President Xi Jinping's visit to Pakistan, which is likely to be scheduled for April 20, it is learnt.
According to sources, almost 32 projects would be signed, including 15 projects of Ministry of Water and Power, five projects of Finance Ministry, four projects of Ministry of Planning, Development and Reforms, two projects of Ministry of Ports and Shipping, three projects of Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission and one each of ministries of Science and Technology, Pakistan Railways, Commerce, Petroleum and Natural Resources and government of Punjab.
The sources said Xi would conduct ground-breaking of (i) 100 MW Quaid-e-Azam Solar Power Park, Bahawalpur; (ii) Zonergy 900 MW Power Park; (iii) Lahore Orange Line Project; and (iv) Cross Border Fibre Optic Data Communication (Khunjerab-Islamabad) project. Chinese President will also launch (i) Cultural Center (ii) FM 98, ICBC Lahore Branch (iii) Small/Medium Hydro Research Centre (iv) Pilot Project Digital Terrestrial Multimedia Broadcast (DTMB) and carry out ground-breaking of (v) 720 MW Kardro Power (vi) 50 MW Wind Power Project Sachal (vii) 50 MW Wind Power Project, Thatta (viii) 50 MW Wind Power Project Dawood Hydro China and 100 MW UEP Wind Power Project, Jhimpir, Thatta.
The projects of Ministry of Water and Power are (i) Co-operation Agreement for Matiari-Lahore and Matiari (Port Qasim)-Faisalabad, Transmission and Transfromation Project between National Transmission Distribution Company (NTDC) and State Grid Corporation of China (SGCC) (ii) a 1320 MW imported coal-based power plant at Port Qasim, Karachi (iii) a 660 MW Coal Based Power Plants, Engro Thar Power Limited (iv) an MoU on financing of Neelum-Jhelum Hydropower Project (v) a 1320 MW coal-based power project by Huaneng (Shandong), Ruyi (Pakistan) Pvt Ltd, Sahiwal (vi) framework Agreement on the China Pakistan Economic Corridor Energy Project Co-operation between Ministery of Water and Power and China Export and Credit Insurance Corporation (vii) an MoU between Chian Three Gorages and WAPDA with regard to Hydro Power development in Pakistan (viii) an 870 MW Hydel Project, Suki kinari, KPK (Signing of Financing Agreement between S K Hydro, Exim Bank and ICBC) (ix) a 720 MW Hydel Project AJK (x) a 900 MW Zonergy Power Project signing of a term-sheet of the facility for Zonergy 900 MW solar project in Pakistan between Export Import Bank Corporation and ZTE Punjab Solar Project Company (xi) 3.8mt/a mining at Thar Block-II ((xii) a 300MW coal-based power plant and mining at Salt Range Punjab (xiii) a 1400MW(4x350MW) Mine Mouth Integrated Coal Power Plant Project (xiv) a 1x660MW between Hubco and CPIH and Strategic Investment Framework Agreement between China Huaneng Group and Government of Punjab and 1100MW Chashma-V.
Similarly, two projects of Ministry of Port and Shipping including Land Lease Deed/handling for Gwadar Port, free zone between COPHCL and GPA and Agreement on Establishment Sister City Relationship between Gwadar and Zhuhai Cities. The Projects of Finance Ministry are an MoU between NDRC and Ministry of Ports and Shipping on Provision of Renewable Energy Items (Climate change) in Gwadar and Financing Framework Agreement of KLM (Multan-Sukkur section), KKH phse -II, Gwadar Eastbay Expressway and New Gwadar International Airport, Agreement between ICBC and HBL on financing Development of Industrial Parks, an LoE on Supply of Law Enforcement Material and Agreement on Economic and Technical Co-operation between the government of People's Republic of China and the government of Pakistan.
The project of Railways is agreement of Joint Feasibility for up-gradation of ML-I and construction of Havelian Dry Port and Commercial contract on Lahore Orange Line Project of Punjab government and Exchange of note on expansion of banking sector under China-Pakistan FTA on service /Protocol on banking sector of Commerce Ministry, an agreement between NEA and MoPNR on Gwadar-Nawabshah LNG Terminal and a pipeline project of Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Resources, etc.
Both the countries would also sign the projects including agreements between China Development Bank (CDB) and HBL for financing PCEC projects and an MoU on the establishment of a joint cotton biotechnology lab.
President Xi will address a joint session of Parliament, which may be summoned by President Mamnoon Hussain as late as a day before the address, sources in the National Assembly secretariat said.
