Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute of Engineering Sciences and Technology and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government would initiate joint research projects. This was stated by Farah Hamid Khan, Secretary, Science and Information Technology Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during her visit to the GIK along with other officials, according to a press release issued here on Friday.
She told media after participating as a chief guest in the start-up fair for Induction 2015 at the incubator in management sciences faculty that the KP wants to finance research projects in the GIK Institute, lauding its contributions in imparting contemporary education to the students of the country in the field of engineering and management sciences.
Abid Sohail said that the KP government has provided 10 million rupees for the supercomputer project, which was inaugurated by Farah Hamid. The supercomputer has been set-up in faculty of computer science and engineering.
The GIK Institute is one of the renowned engineering universities in the country and we are proud of its contributions to the nation since its establishment in 1993, Abid said.
Earlier Farah Hamid and Jehangir Bashar, Rector GIK Institute discussed the various aspects of the contemporary education. She also inaugurated the lithography laboratory in the Faculty of Engineering Sciences. In start-up fair students of the various universities presented their research projects and Farah Hamid and other members of took great interest in projects presented by the students.
The most interesting project was presented by Tallal Zahoor and Nuraiz Shahid of National University of Sciences and Technology about wireless power consumption and control solution. The students said that Pakistan has been passing through a difficult period of energy shortage. They said that through their conducted research project they want to address this issue and reduce the gap between supply and demand.
Nuraiz said that if government will adopt their presented idea it would save 25 percent electricity consumption in the country and the power shortfall would be reduced from 7000MW to 5250MW.
Later, Farah Hamid gave away certificates to the participants.
