Pakistan Railways Mazdoor Union on Friday demanded of the government to announce a raise of 50 per cent in the salaries of Railways workers in the forthcoming federal budget. A meeting of Railways Mazdoor Union held at the City Railway station with its president Muqaddar Zaman in the chair, demanded of the Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to take immediate measures for increasing salaries of Railway workers as they are facing serious financial crisis due to high inflation.
He hoped that the prime minister by acceding to the Union's demand of increasing salaries would motivate labourers to work with more devotion and dedication for the uplift the public entity.
The participants of the meeting deplored that although PML-N in its manifesto prior to the last general elections had committed to increase labourers salaries by 100 per cent, the incumbent government despite a passage of two years has failed to honour its promise. The meeting also urged the government not to privatise the old public sector entity as such a move on its part would render thousands of workers jobless. The meeting was attended, among others, by Aurangzeb Tanoli, Aleemuddin Sheikh, Bakht Ali, Alauddin, Bashir Ahmad, Ameer Bahadur, Abdul Rasheed, Zahir Ali.
