A meeting to develop an action plan/mechanism for export of surplus wheat was held here under the aegis of Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDA). According to a press release issued here on Friday, the meeting held at the TDAP office on April 15 was chaired by TDAP' secretary. It was attended by officials of Commerce Ministry, Provincial Agriculture Minister Farrukh Javed, Punjab and Sindh agriculture departments' secretaries and major grain merchants of the country.
A number of issues such as the availability of surplus stock, its flow into export markets, pricing mechanism, administration and mechanism of disbursement were discussed at length at the meeting.
The issue of export and import of wheat currently being dealt by Ministry of Food Security and Provisional Ministries of Food and Agriculture and other trade organisations also came under discussion. The meeting also discussed the local and international market and prices for wheat in order to work out a mechanism for exporting surplus wheat which includes stock of carry forward wheat from the last year, and availability of new crop.
Further meetings in this regard will be held in Lahore on April 19, where all the stake-holders will finalise the mechanism, the press release added.
