How ironic it is that a huge energy-acquisition effort or plan has turned into a nasty controversy. According to media reports, the historic LNG deal between Qatar and Pakistan has turned into a scam mainly because of a lack of transparency in the contract. The PML-N government is doing little or nothing to take any effective or meaningful action to protect and preserve its reputation of being a business-friendly government mainly because of the fact that it is doing little or nothing to fully appreciate the criticality of transparency in mega economic deals in particular.
The newspaper has, therefore, made a valid point in one of its recent editorial comments: "the Prime Minister has stood by the flawed non-transparent decisions taken by his cabinet members - (for example, the Nandipur project and import of substandard wheat from Ukraine and Russia with large wheat stocks held in our godowns) and non-transparent alike - because of the rather strange logic that firing any cabinet member for lack of performance would weaken his government."
