The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Friday took notice of Station House Officers' (SHOs) transfer in NA-246 constituency and asked Inspector General (IG) Sindh Police and Interior secretary to explain their positions.
According to sources, ECP had banned transfers of police officials and other provincial bureaucracy due to NA-246 by-polls. But despite the ban SHOs of the constituency were transferred and the commission has sought immediate report from the relevant authorities.
It is to be mentioned here that Additional Inspector General (AIG) Karachi had ordered the transfers of SHO Gulberg and SHO Azizabad a day ago.
Secretary Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) Babar Yaqoob also reached Karachi to review the arrangements for NA-246 by-election. He will meet Director General Sindh Rangers and contestants to discuss security arrangements during the election.
The secretary will also preside over a high level meeting at the provincial election commission office.
The NA-246 is witnessing hectic political activities due to by-poll in the constituency on April 23. The seat fell vacant after Nabeel Gabol, who was elected on the ticket of MQM in the 2013 general elections, resigned after developing differences with the party.
A number of candidates are contesting the election, but has turned into a three-pronged contest between MQM's Kunwar Naveed Jamil, PTI's Imran Ismail and JI's Rashid Nasim.
