ISLAMABAD: The Judicial Commission on Thursday sought forensic reports from chairman national database and registration authority (Nadra) pertaining to 37 provincial and National Assembly constituencies within three days. In its maiden public hearing, a three-judge Commission headed by Chief Justice Nasirul Mulk also issued directives to Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to submit report in response to the proposals of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) within one-week.
The chairman of the Commission Justice Nasirul Mulk granted one- week time to all political parties for submitting supporting material to substantiate their claims of poll rigging in 2013 general elections. Justice Nasirul Mulk appointed former Prosecutor General of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) KK Agha to assist the commission in probing the matter in hand.
Before formal proceedings, the Commission said that probe into 2013 poll rigging would take place in accordance with the terms of reference (ToRs) of the Ordinance issued for the Commission.
The Chairman of the Commission asked all the twenty-one political parties and 41 individuals who approached the Commission seeking probe into the matter, to refrain from giving media interviews in the Supreme Court premises, saying it may influence the proceedings.
Besides, the Commission asked the media to got for simple reporting based on facts and also hinted at conducting in-camera proceedings if needed.
While addressing the political parties, the Commission Chairman said: "It's not a court...it's a Commission and we need your assistance".
PTI chief Imran Khan was present in the court accompanied by Jehangir Tareen, senior advocate Hafeez Pirzada who represents the PTI - the man who has a track record of defending the military dictators in the country.
But contrary to his past track records, Pirzada insisted that his client (PTI chief) was struggling for bolstering the teething democracy in the county.
However, the Commission Chairman Justice Nasirul Mulk called upon Pirzada and the representatives of other political parties to assist the Commission over statement of proposals about transparency of the general election and systematic rigging in 2013 general elections.
He said that one by one all the applications of individuals and political parities would be examined after which they would be asked to submit evidence if required.
Representatives of PPPP, Jamat-e-Islami, Pakistan Muslim League-Q, Mohajar Qaumi Movement, Jamiat Ulam-e-Islam (Nazriati) also appeared before the Commission.
Later, the hearing of the Commission was adjourned till April 23.
