The Stock Exchange shares suffered losses on Tuesday amid bearish sentiments as the LSE-25 index shed 49.54 points to 5557.06 against 5606.60. The transaction volume squeezed to 1.095 million shares compared with the day's earlier volume of 1.434 million shares. Selling pressure in the cement and fertilizer sectors' shares like D G Khan Cement, Maple Leaf Cement, Lafarge Pakistan Cement, Fauji Cement, Fatima Fertilizer Fauji Fertilizer Bin Qasim kept the market in negative zone throughout the day while Pakistan Oil Fields, Byco Petroleum, Nishat Mills, PIA, Faysal Bank and Japan Power also ended with losses.
A few companies like Engro Foods, Mughal Iron and Steel, Habib Bank, United Bank, Bank Alfalah, Bank of Punjab and Southern Electric Power resisted pressure and closed in green zone. Losers were more than gainers as of 76 active issues, eight companies posted gains, 18 declined and 50 others stayed glued to their previous closing. Engro Foods and Mughal Iron and Steel gained Rs 2.43 and Rs 1.69, whereas D G Khan Cement, Nishat Mills and Pakistan Oil Fields lost Rs 6.52, Rs 5.60 and Rs 4.69. Byco Petroleum was the market leader whose 451,500 shares changed hands followed by Bank of Punjab with 257,500 shares.
