Weather has become conducive for harvesting of the wheat crop as mainly hot and dry is expected in most parts of the country. Hot weather conditions would continue to prevail in Sindh, Balochistan and plain areas of Punjab and KP during next few days, Meteorological department said here on Thursday. Director General Punjab Agriculture Extension Services Dr Anjum Ali told Business Recorder that unseasonal rains in late March and cold weather had delayed the harvesting of the Kharif crops especially in the Lahore and Gujranwala divisions for about two weeks.
However, he said that during past few days the farmers had harvested 17 to 18 percent wheat crop sown over 17 million acres in Punjab though the yield was slightly less than normal. "Now that weather has become hot and dry and farmers should complete harvesting of wheat crop as early as possible. Farmers of Southern Punjab are advised to prepare land for cotton in time so that best grains conditions may be fully utilised during the whole crop life," he added.
Spokesman of the Meteorological department said the hottest places in the country were Moen-jo-Daro, Sibbi 45°C, Larkana, Hyderabad, R Y Khan, Padidan, Sh Benazirabad, Jaccoabad 44°C, Rohri, Dadu, Turbat, Sukkur, Noorpurthal, Choor 43°C, Bhakkar, Bahawalpur, Mithi, DG Khan 42°C, DI Khan, Lasbella, Mirpurkhas, Okara, Bahawalnagar, Nokundi and Joharabad 41°C.
