That Asifa Bhutto Zardari will ultimately lead Pakistan People's Party (PPP) is a significant development that has immensely lent credence to speculations that the party has been hit by some serious differences between Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari and son and Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari. Addressing an impressive PPP gathering in Lyari's Kakri ground, former president Zardari also made it clear that he cannot be just browbeaten or intimidated through wild allegations as he reportedly warned his political opponents not to underestimate the PPP. According to him, the party was still popular in all the provinces, Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan.
Not doubt, his assertion that he is not going to accept a widely-held perception that PPP is witnessing a slide in its popularity make a strong sense; he is, however, required to improve the performance of Sindh government without any further loss of time. He must not lose sight of the fact that only good governance can help arrest the slide of his party's popularity.
