An Accountability Court on Monday re-summoned former president Asif Ali Zardari to appear in person on May 5 in assets' reference case in which he and his slain wife, former prime minister Benazir Bhutto were accused of acquiring assets beyond their legal means.
Judge Khalid Mehmood Ranjha of Accountability Court issued summon to former president Ali Zardari on re-opening of a corruption case against him (former president) in which he allegedly failed to submit details of his assets.
Prosecutor General Raja Khurram appeared before the court while Farooq H. Naik represented the former president. Naik pleaded that his client did not receive the notice earlier issued by the court. He told the court that his client got the information of issuance of notice through media reports.
The court re-issued the notice and adjourned the hearing till May 5, ordering former president to appear before the court in person.
Naik while talking to media persons outside the court said that Asif Zardari respects the judiciary and would appear before the court on the next hearing.
The court earlier issued summon to former president Asif Ali Zardar to appear before the court on April 27. The name of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto was removed from the reference after her death.
The assets reference was initiated against Zardari and Benazir in 2001 during the former president Pervez Musharraf regime in which Zardari was accused of misusing authority during his wife's tenure as prime minister, but its hearing was adjourned indefinitely in 2010.
