Smartphones can survive up to 15 drops with new Gorilla Glass protector
Despite many protectors, our phone screens tend to break after just a couple of drops but probably not anymore, as a tech company has made a glass protector that can make through an average of 15 drops without breaking.
Just yesterday, Corning, a multinational tech company that became the leading cover glass choice for device manufacturers after its Corning Gorilla Glass, has unveiled its Gorilla Glass 6 that can survive an average of 15 drops on rough surface from 3.3 feet without breaking, resulted the tests conducted.
The new version is also claimed to handle drops from higher heights. The new version is twice as good as the previous Gorilla Glass 5 and allegedly way better then rivals that break after the first fall. “Built on a decade-long legacy of delivering the toughest cover glass available for consumer mobile devices, Gorilla Glass 6 is Corning’s most durable cover glass to date,” wrote Corning.

Since people are more reliant on smartphones now, improving cover glass performance and challenging multiple drops has been Corning’s aim to make Gorilla Glass 6, making it more resistant to damage.
Corning realizes the growing trend of phones with glass displays, glass backs or curved displays and with its Gorilla Glass 6, the firm is set to ‘meet the requirements of modern designs that use glass for more than 85% of the enclosure’, as per said Scott Forester, division vice president, Marketing and Innovation Products, Corning Gorilla Glass.
Corning Gorilla Glass 6 is already in production and being evaluated by ‘multiple customers’ and will be available in markets in the next ‘several months’.
