In order to woo Lyari people, PPP co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari made a passionate speech at a public gathering at Kakri ground recently. Visibly concerned at 'Loss of Lyari', he announced a development package of one billion rupees for Lyari, setting up of Bilawal Bhutto Engineering College, a low-cost housing scheme consisting of flats and regularization of contractual employees. He also vowed that water shortage in Lyari would be overcome in three months. He reportedly said that he was elected from Lyari as an MNA and his two children were also born there.
It is good that Zardari has finally recognised the profundity of a challenge that he faces in Lyari where the party has witnessed a slide in its popularity in recent years.
