The power shortfall has touched the alarming level of 5,000 megawatt since the demand for power has reached to 15,200 megawatt against the generation of 10200 megawatt at present, claim power sector sources. "Unannounced power-cuts have crept in the system despite a clear direction of holding six to eight hours a day urban and rural areas, respectively. Also, the industrial sectors are facing more than eight hours a day electricity power-cuts, forcing the industrialists to hold one shift off to manage the operations," they say.
"A rise in the mercury has increased the demand for electricity both in domestic and commercial areas. Power distribution companies are receiving less than announced quota of electricity across the county, as power generation is not matching with the demand."
