Sindh Abadgar Board (SAB) demanded that judicial enquiry should be held into alleged corruption and non-transparent distribution of gunny sacks in the province. Such views were expressed by President SAB, Abdul Majeed Nizamani while addressing the press conference held at his office on Saturday.
The fixed price of wheat should be given to growers to avert any loss to them, he added. Despite passing more than one and half year Sindh government could not appoint a full minister for the food department to run its affairs which was serious concerns, he added. The additional charge of said department was handed over to the minister who has already four ministries, he said.
The government has set less procurement target of wheat as compared to previous years, he said adding in addition to this, officials in the department was providing gunny sacks to their favourites and traders rather than among growers. Whatever gunny sacks being distributed among them were plastic bags instead of thread-made sacks, he said.
Despite fixation Rs 1300 rate for wheat procurement, growers are being forced to sell at Rs 950 to 1100 per maund which is causing huge loss to growers, he added. The growers in Sindh are spending more expenses on nutrients such as seeds and others but the low rate would not compensate it, he added.
