-The Punjab government has completed capacity building training of 40,000 teachers in the province and it is hoped that teachers would help to improve the quality of public sector schooling because of their good academic qualifications and professional training imparted to them, revealed Standing Committee on Education in the Punjab Assembly Chairman Qamar ul Islam Raja on Saturday in the concluding ceremonies of two different teachers' training programmes.
The training programmes were held at the Government Teachers' Training College and the Government MC High School in Rawalpindi organised by the School Education Department. In his speech, he said the teachers' training was pivotal in providing good quality education to students and to transform them as nation-builders of tomorrow. "It also helps in providing child-friendly schooling to the students as corporal punishment is strictly prohibited in all schools," he added. He said about 130,000 teachers had been recruited in the Punjab in recent years purely on merit and that had forced other provinces, including the KP, to follow suit.
Qamar ul Islam, who is also the Chairman of Punjab Education Foundation (PEF) which provides free education to the needy students up to the Metric, claimed that 1.6 million deserving students are getting free quality education through 4,000 PEF partner schools in the province.
