Qazi M. Khalilullah, an Additional Secretary, has been appointed as the spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, who will replace Tasnim Aslam, it was learnt. Foreign Office sources said that Qazi M. Khalilullah, who is currently looking after the Middle East desk at the Foreign Office will be the new spokesperson of the Ministry. Khalilullah is replacing Tasnim Aslam, who has been serving as Foreign Office spokesperson since December 2013.
The sources said that the decision to appoint Khalilullah as the new spokesperson was taken in view of over burden on his predecessor, Tasnim Aslam who was additionally holding the job, as she is also the additional secretary at United Nations desk. Qazi M. Khalilullah joined the Foreign Service of Pakistan in 1985. He has served at different embassies. He was posted at the Pakistan Embassy at Moscow (Russia) from 1988-1993, the Pakistan Embassy at Ashgabat (Turkmenistan) from 1993-1996, Pakistan Embassy at Kyiv (Ukraine) from 1999-2002, and Pakistan Embassy at Geneva (UN) from 2002-2005.
Khalil was promoted to the rank of Ambassador of Pakistan in 2008, and has also served as Ambassador to Myanmar. Among his achievements during his service, he has played a key role in different areas. He has been the Co-ordinator of the Asian Group of the World International Property Organisation (WIPO) at Geneva from January-June 2003.
He has also served as Co-ordinator of Asian Group for 2004-2005 at the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) to develop and foster a clear statement of political will and take concrete steps to establish the foundations for an Information Society for all. He was also a Member of the Working Group on Internet Governance established by the UN Secretary General in 2004, and a Member of the UN Group of Governmental Experts to consider further steps to enhance international co-operation in preventing, combating and eradicating illicit brokering of Small Arms and Light Weapons in 2006-2007.
