The Accidents and Emergency Department of the Jinnah Hospital will be expanded with financial assistance from the NGO Sakeena Nazli Tribute. The estimated construction cost is up to Rs 50 million though old graduates from the Allama Iqbal Medical College in the United States will provide medical equipment worth Rs 30.5 million for the new block. This extension will accommodate another 120 beds.
A ceremony was held at the Conference Room of the Allama Iqbal Medical College on Wednesday in this regard. Advisor to Chief Minister on Health Khawaja Salman Rafique, Health Director General Doctor Zahid Pervaiz, Principal Professor Dr Mahmood Shaukat, Medical Sperintendent Zia Ullah, Sakeena Nazli Tribute representative Zainab Qureshi, Patients Welfare Society patron-in-chief Mian Mahboob and member Mian Mushtaq Ahmed were also present.
Advisor Rafique and representative Qureshi signed a memorandum as Professor Shaukat talked about various development projects and welfare works at the Jinnah Hospital with the collaboration of philanthropists and non-government organisations. Professor Shaukat also revealed the construction plan for another 120 beds in the Accidents and Emergency Department, with the college's old graduates promising to offer medical equipments worth Rs 30.5 million.
He then chaired a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Dengue which revealed that the indoor-and-outdoor dengue surveillance activities and other steps had been taken to combat the disease. Regular meetings by town emergency response committees also came under discussion in which members of the National and Provincial Assemblies and government officers participated.
