Advisor to the Prime Minister on National Security and Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz Wednesday called on the visiting Maldives President Abdullah Yameen Abdul Gayoom as he arrived on a two-day official visit to Pakistan. According to Foreign Office sources, the two sides exchanged views on bilateral relations, regional situation and international issues of mutual importance during the meeting.
Earlier, on his arrival the President of Maldives was welcomed by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and members of the cabinet at Nur Khan Airbase. A 21-gun salute was given to the distinguished guests when he alighted from his aircraft. Two children presented bouquets to the President of Maldives. According to a Foreign Office press release, during the visit, Pakistan and Maldives will review all important aspects of their bilateral relations. A number of documents on co-operation in sports, health, education and illicit drugs and narcotics trafficking, will also be signed.
"Pakistan and Maldives enjoy close and cordial relations. The relations are based on mutual trust, common faith and understanding", Foreign Office spokesperson Tasnim Aslam said. She said that Pakistan and Maldives have been actively co-operating with each other at the regional level and at the multilateral fora.
