The Karachi Port handled 112,904 tonnes of cargo comprising 93,295 tonnes of import cargo and 19,609 tonnes of export cargo including 6,059 loaded and empty containers during the last 24 hours ending at 0700 hours on Friday. The total import cargo of 93,295 tonnes comprised of 45,054 tonnes of containerised cargo; 22,514 tonnes of bulk cargo: 16,000 tonnes of coal; 6,514 tonnes of rock phosphate and 25,727 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.
The total export cargo of 19,609 tonnes comprised of 18,779 tonnes of containerised cargo; 60 tonnes of general cargo and 770 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo. As many as 6,059 containers comprising of 3,315 containers import and 2,744 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Friday. The break-up of imported containers shows 951 of 20's and 1,168 of 40's loaded while 26 of 20's and 1 of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 570 of 20's and 214 of 40's loaded containers while 788 of 20's and 479 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours.
There were eight ships namely Commodore, Ever Resulte, PAC Aries, SSL Mumbai, Mid Nature, Trident Star, Miseno and Kosmas-V carrying containers, oil tankers and rock phosphate respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period. There were five vessels viz. YM Enlightenment, Uni Premier, APL Seattle, Nord Goodwill and DL Ace carrying containers and oil tankers respectively currently at the berths. There were two ships namely Hyundai Colombo and Shan Ying Zuo carrying containers and oil tanker respectively sailed out to sea on Friday, while another ship namely YM Enlightenment carrying containers is expected to sail on Saturday. There were three vessels viz. Sudair, Wan Hai-602 and Han Zhang carrying containers and project cargo respectively due to arrive on Friday, while another vessel viz. HS Marco Polo carrying containers is due to arrive on Saturday.
