Air Chief, Air Marshal Sohail Aman on Saturday blamed technical fault for crash of a military helicopter that killed two ambassadors and wives of two envoys. The Russian-made MI-17 helicopter, carrying diplomats and their wives, crashed near the scenic Gilgit in northern Pakistan on Friday, killing seven people including the ambassadors of Norway and Philippines and wives of the ambassadors of Malaysia and Indonesia. Both pilots and technician of the helicopter were also killed.
Air Marshal Aman said the helicopter that met with accident in Naltar area went out of the control before landing due to a technical fault. The Air Chief said the pilots had excellent professional skills. He told state television that the real causes of the accident could be ascertained after investigation. He said the base commander himself was observing landing of the helicopter.
