Barbecuing has entered the digital age with a new, Austrian-made charcoal-fired cooker, but outdoor chefs will still need their nifty tongs, skewers and favourite aprons. The new device, the Activegrill made by Infotronik Touchscreen Systeme, lets the chef set temperatures between 80 and 400 degrees Celsius by controlling a series of air vents. Cooks can also choose between direct or indirect heat.
They can set the controls so an alarm sounds on a smartphone when the ideal temperature is reached. The manufacturer promises that the barbecue will be easy to clean and use. Depending on extras, the grill costs between 5,800 and 7,400 euros (6,445 to 8,225 dollars).
