Heavy vehicles: Team formed to check violations

Commissioner Karachi Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui has constituted a team to check violations of traffic rules and regulations by heavy vehicles at Northern bypass. The team including the officials of Excise department, traffic police as well as the officials of the Provincial Transport Authority and the Regional Transport Authority will check vehicle papers, fitness and driving licenses.
This was decided at a high level meeting presided over by the commissioner at his office here on Monday. The meeting reviewed the situation of traffic congestion due to heavy vehicles. It was decided that heavy vehicles will be allowed to ply within the city from 11.00pm to 6.00am. He said these plans are being decided with the mutual understanding of transporters and the DIG traffic police. Oil tankers small or big could not enter the city from 5.00pm to 7.00pm. The DIG Traffic police suggested that Maripur truck stand should be shifted to the Super Highway.
