Hanif Abbasi sentenced for life

KARACHI: An anti-narcotics court on Saturday awarded life imprisonment to the PML-N leader Hanif Abbasi in the ephedrine case. Shortly after the verdict, Abbasi was taken into custody from the courtroom.

He was accused of misappropriating 500kg of the controlled chemical ephedrine in 2010, and selling the same to narcotics smugglers.

Meanwhile, Judge of the court Sardar Akram Khan has acquitted seven other accused by giving them benefit of the doubt.

Abbasi, who is PML-N candidate in NA-60 (Rawalpindi), is pitted against AML president Sheikh Rashid in the same constituency.
