Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP), Women Action Forum (WAF), media and other segments of society held a protest demonstration here on Thursday evening to condemn and mourn the Safoora Goth carnage in Karachi and demanded immediate action for the arrest of culprits as also to eliminate terrorism from the city. different protests and candlelight vigils were held by organizations and member civil society outside the Hyderabad Press Club (HPC) on Thursday.
Coordinator HRCP Task Force Hyderabad, Dr Ashothama and others staged a sit-in against barbaric attack killing innocent persons from Ismaili Community. In the same way, WAF also staged a demo which was led by its leaders Professor Amar Sindhu and Professor Arfana Mallah. Hyderabad Union of Journalist (HUJ) - a unit of PFUJ - held the candlelight vigil for the victims who lost their lives in Karachi attack.
It was led by President HUJ, Khalid Khokhar, senior journalists Rehman Samo where a large number of journalists including Mansoor Mari, Khalid Chandio and others participated. Members of civil society including Dr Gulzar Jumani of Ismaili community, Alia Buxul, Javed Soz Halai, Asghar Leghari, Lala Haleem, Advocate Bhagwanas and others also held protest demonstration against the killing.
The protesters expressed concern on the way police and other security agencies failed to apprehend the killers and said all the claims of peace and order of the government proved empty. They deplored that daily business affairs of the citizens including the right to live have been made hostage with terrorists who were roaming freely to strike at any place. The speakers said the condemnation, condolences and sympathetic statements were not enough but the need of time was action against terrorism so to eradicate the menace from its roots and to expose their supporters and facilitators.
