India to ban iPhones if Apple doesn’t comply with local laws

India might ban Apple’s iPhones after six months in the country due to the company’s failure to comply with the local laws.

iPhones might be banned in India because of the ongoing issues with the country and the smartphone manufacturer Apple, as per reports. An Indian Telecom Regulatory Authority (TRAI) policy requires all users to download app ‘Do Not Disturb’ for reporting spam messages and calls. The app requires access to users’ personal data, which Apple is not comfortable with.

Apple has thus refused to allow the app to be listed on the App Store due to users’ privacy issues, but the country does not agree to this. This has led Indian government to take steps and provide a deadline till January 2019 or getting banned from the country’s cellular networks losing the ability to access voice, data and SMS services.

Apple might launch iPhones in some unusual colors

According to Deccan Chronicle, TRAI is considering to withdraw iPhone’s license from the country according to their revised rules and regulation that say, “Provided that where such devices do not permit functioning of such Apps as prescribed in regulations 6(2)(e) and regulations 23(2)(d), access providers shall, on the order or direction of the authority, derecognize such devices from their telecom networks.”

TRAI’s orders were followed by Google that permitted the app of Google Play Store, Apple on the other hand, refused to allow it on iOS App Store reasoning that the app’s requirement for accessing to the device information is a breach of user’s data privacy, wrote Venture Beat.

Moreover, if the Cupertino giant fails to comply by the country’s laws, the entire iPhone range might be banned from India’s cellular networks.
