DuPont, a science company that brings world-class, innovative products, materials, and services to the global marketplace, recently supported a community outreach programme to support life skills and vocational training to deaf female students of Deaf Reach School, a project of Family Education Services Foundation (FESF) in Karachi and Hyderabad.
The objective of the programme is to empower the young female talents to be self-sufficient and to gain the skills and knowledge that will allow them to overcome obstacles in life or work environment and ultimately, help themselves integrate in the society and make a sustainable living. "DuPont has a proud legacy of outreach among the communities in which we operate. For more than 200 years, DuPont has supported community outreach programmes that contribute to the social progress, economic success and environmental well-being. We focus on enabling programmes and nonprofit organisations that enhance sustainability. By partnering with FESF we hope to make a difference in our local community by revitalising our female youth to achieve self-sufficiency, and enhance their quality of life," said Tauqir Ahmed, Chief Executive Officer, DuPont Pakistan Operations (Pvt) Ltd.
DuPont Pakistan will fund vocational training courses of sewing, tailoring, culinary arts, IT, embroidery and arts. Students will rotate in these courses to expand their skill sets and also be trained for marketable skills and money management. "FESF is helping make education a reality for more than 1,000 deaf children in Pakistan. Our vision was established in 1998 to provide academic and vocational education to deaf children and youth, particularly in rural areas with little access to formal education or vocational training. We are delighted to collaborate with organisations, like DuPont, that share the same vision; to foster growth and success of our society. Through this programme, we will enable our students to gain competency and self-sufficiency, empowering them to reach their full potential," said Anita Florijn, Director Programs, FESF.
